Gamji Educational and Mentorship Forum (GEMF) is an initiative founded by Northern Nigerian academics in the diaspora, with the aim of mentoring youth on career development, entrepreneurship, education, and global scholarship opportunities. GEMF is a non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit platform dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders, especially in Northern Nigeria, where limited opportunities and lack of awareness often hinder youth from reaching their full potential.
History of the GEMF
The Gamji Educational and Mentorship Forum (GEMF) emerged in 2020 during challenging moments in Nigeria that sparked nationwide reflection on unity, equity, and representation.
In response, six young Northern Nigerian academics based in South Korea, Australia, and China came together online, not just to discuss the unfolding events but to confront the deeper challenges facing their region. They identified limited access to quality education and mentorship as key barriers and resolved to take action.
What began as a simple conversation quickly evolved into a purposeful movement. GEMF was founded as a platform to empower, mentor, and uplift youth, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Today, GEMF is fully registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (CAC) and has grown into a global network of 100+ mentors and 1,000+ mentees, many of whom have secured prestigious scholarships, gained admissions into top universities, and launched impactful careers. Some have returned as mentors, continuing the cycle of transformation.
