Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Document Preparation

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is a prestigious, fully funded scholarship program sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Korea. It is designed to support outstanding international students to pursue master’s and doctoral (PhD) degrees at leading Korean universities.

Next Application Period -February 2026 to April 2026

Before applying for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), all required academic and civil documents must be properly authenticated.

  • Step 1
Documents to Be Authenticated
  1. Academic documents
    • Degree certificates
    • Academic transcripts
  2. Civil documents
    • Birth certificate
    • Family relationship certificate (where applicable)
  • Step 2
Federal Ministry of Education (FME), Abuja
  • Authenticate original academic documents (from secondary school certificates up to university degree certificates and transcripts).
  • Step 3
Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Abuja

(Opposite the Ministry of Education)

  • Civil documents (birth certificate and family relationship documents)

Authenticate: Academic documents certified by the Ministry of Education

  • Step 4
Certified True Copy (CTC)
  • After authentication at the two ministries, obtain Certified True Copies (CTC) of the legalized documents.
  • This can be done at any Federal High Court, preferably the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
  • Step 5
Before Visiting the Korean Embassy
  • Download the Authentication Form from the Korean Embassy Abuja website.
  • Complete and attach the form to each document to be authenticated.
  • Book an appointment with the Korean Embassy via their official email address.
  • Submit your documents on the scheduled date.

Take the following to the Korean Embassy for final authentication:

  • CTC copies of all authenticated documents
  • Original international passport (and photocopy)
  • An affidavit from a High Court stating that the documents belong to you
    • The affidavit must clearly list the documents to be legalized
  • Cover letter from your previous institution
    • Issued by the Registrar or Dean
  • Submit your documents on the scheduled date.
  • Collect your documents when ready (usually within 7–10 working days).
Important Note (Degrees Obtained Outside Nigeria)
  • Proceed with the CTC and Korean Embassy authentication as stated above
  • If your degree was obtained outside Nigeria, you must:
  • Authenticate it at the Embassy of the issuing country in Nigeria
  • Then authenticate it at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja

Before Submitting Your GKS Application

  • Download the official GKS guidelines and application forms.
  • Carefully follow all instructions.
  • You may apply through:
    • Embassy Track, or
    • University Track (choose only one).
